I was initially told that a service call for my 5-ton Hydron geothermal unit would be $169 + HST. Based on that, I agreed to proceed.
However, when they later called to schedule the appointment, I was suddenly told the cost would actually be $399 + HST.
That’s not a minor difference — that’s more than double the original quoted price.
As someone with a strong electrical and mechanical background, I had already done extensive troubleshooting myself and narrowed the issue down to either:
• A failed sensor (likely related to the TXV / low pressure condition)
• Or low refrigerant charge
The system was going into low pressure lockout, which typically points toward either refrigerant issues or the sensing side of the TXV circuit.
The only reason I needed service was because I am not licensed to open the refrigerant circuit.
So this wasn’t a blind diagnostic call — the groundwork was already done.
To change the price that dramatically after the fact feels misleading at best and like a bait-and-switch at worst.
For comparison, Tranquility Home Comfort in Bowmanville offers geothermal service calls for $149, and their geothermal technician is experienced in these systems.
If the real service call rate is $399, that should be stated upfront — not after a customer has already agreed based on a much lower number.

The new furnace was installed on January 26, and a few days later the heat pump.
Because we are not very tech-savvy, it seemed as if the furnace was running too often – it was the coldest time of the winter! We contacted Comfort Zone again.

Service came out -ventor motor-ordered and installed 12:00 pm Wednesday. Hakim was our service tech who installed the motor – knowledgeable, efficient and polite. He also talked to us about next steps down the road – (pressure free) as we will be looking at a heat pump next year. Awesome job! From start to finish Comfort Zone responded quickly and communicated well.

[UPDATE] Bosch eventually supplied the replacement unit and Comfort Zone scheduled the install for Friday morning. In fact Jeremy and Joe were able to come early and made extremely quick work of the removal and replacement. All settings were configured as per the original unit and prolonged tests proved that the new unit (unlike the old) could supply hot water continuously. Many thanks to Jeremy and Joe and the whole Comfort Zone team.
Josh came by the next day to discuss replacement. Provided good info and resonablybpriced options.
On Monday Courtney and Joe installed a new furnace. They were efficient, took care to not bump walls and doors; answered my numerous question. They kept the work area tidy. The completed the work in a timely manner.
